@blacktheatretroupe has been providing training, employment and performance opportunities for multiethnic and underserved artists since 1970 and acts to make significant contributions toward fostering the arts, specifically theater, within the State of Arizona.
Founded by civil rights activist and Arizona 2015 Women Hall of Fame Recipient Helen K. Mason. From the Sydney P. Osborn projects, to the amphitheater at East Lake park, to their first official location on what is now know as the Roosevelt Row Churchill District. The Black Theatre troupe has been a pillar and a voice for Black Performing Arts in Phoenix. With the new facility “The Helen K. Mason Performing Arts Center” located on 14st and Washington.
